Overview
Island Innovators brings together the founders, technologists and creatives building the Caribbean, through a series of in-person gatherings that started in Grenada. As the community grew, the connections made in the room needed somewhere to continue between events.
Island Innovators needed a platform where members could present themselves and find each other, and a way for its small team to run the community without a developer on call.
What we did:
Ran the work as a Build engagement: one standing team for product, design and engineering.
Designed and built a full-stack web application, front end to database.
Built a member platform with profiles, a searchable directory and connections.
Built an admin dashboard and content management system for the team.
Member platform
A Place For The Region’s Innovators To Find Each Other.
Every member has a profile that says who they are, what they’re building and what they can help with. The directory turns a room of introductions into a network members can search long after the event ends.
What We Did
- Profiles: Members describe their work, skills, island and what they’re looking for.
- Directory: Search and filter members by island, sector and skill.
- Connections: Members reach out to each other and keep track of the people they’ve met.
- Accounts: Secure sign-up and sign-in, with members in control of their own profiles.
Admin dashboard and CMS
One Place To Run The Community.
The Island Innovators team runs the platform from its own dashboard: who joins, what members see, and what the community is talking about, without waiting on a developer.
What We Did
- Members: Review new members, manage accounts and set who can do what.
- Content: Publish announcements, opportunities and pages from a content management system.
- Moderation: Keep the directory accurate and the community safe.
Engineering
One Application, Front To Back.
We built the platform as a single full-stack web application: the interface members use, the dashboard the team uses, and the API, database and authentication behind both, designed and built by the same team.
That kept every decision in one place. A change to how members work shows up in the platform and the dashboard together, and nothing is lost between a design team and a development team.
What We Did
- Designed one data model behind the member platform and the dashboard.
- Built role-based access, so members and administrators each see what they should.
- Made every screen work on a phone as well as on a desktop.
- Documented the system so the team can run it and extend it.

Island Innovators engaged us through Build: product direction, design and engineering on a monthly subscription, with the team shaped around what the platform needed next.

- Define: Agreed the problem, the priorities and the first release together.
- Build: Worked through the roadmap in regular delivery cycles, reviewing each release with the team.
