Brown Girl Café

A brand for a Grenadian café where people came to eat, study and work

Overview

Brown Girl Café opened in Cinnamon Plaza, L’Anse aux Épines, as a café and a place to work and study. It served what it called “Brown Girl” style culinary twists: all-day breakfast, waffles, chebaffles and spring rolls, with a signature sauce of its own.

The café needed a brand as personal as its food: one that carried the confidence of its name, felt warm enough to stay in for an afternoon, and worked everywhere from the counter to a delivery app.

What we did:

Created the Brown Girl Café identity: logo, colour and type.

Designed the menu around the café’s signature dishes.

Carried the brand onto packaging, gift cards and signage.

Set the look for the café’s social media and delivery listings.

Identity

A Name With Confidence, And A Brand To Match.

Brown Girl is a name that says who is behind it. We built the identity to carry it with warmth and pride, from a wordmark on the shopfront to a profile picture on a phone.

What We Did

  • Designed the Brown Girl Café logo and its variations.
  • Set a colour palette and type system for print and screens.
  • Wrote guidelines so the brand stays consistent as the café grows.

In the café

Somewhere To Stay A While.

Brown Girl Café was a place to work and study as much as to eat. The brand carries into the space and out of the door, so it feels as considered at the table as it does on the menu.

What We Did

  • Applied the identity to signage and the counter.
  • Designed takeaway packaging for food and treats.
  • Designed Brown Girl gift cards.

Social

The Brand, Online Every Day.

Much of the café’s audience found it on Instagram and through delivery. We set a look for both, so every post, promotion and order looked like Brown Girl.

What We Did

  • Designed templates for posts, promotions and new items.
  • Designed the profile and highlight covers.
  • Set the look of the café’s delivery listings.

Outcome

A Café People Recognised Before They Walked In.

Brown Girl Café opened with a brand as personal as its food, consistent from the menu to the shopfront to the feed.

What We Did

  • A brand identity: logo, colour and type.
  • A menu designed around the signature dishes.
  • Packaging, gift cards and signage.
  • A social media look and templates.
